The New York Times reports that their owners may be feeding their own vanities more than the needs of their pets. The trend may have reached its pinnacle with the “neuticle,” a surgical implant of prosthetic testicles meant to restore a dog’s self-esteem and dignity after neutering.
Kim Kardashian has had her boxer “neuticled,” which isn’t all that surprising, but so have 500,000 other pet owners. Americans spent $69.5 billion on their pets last year, and that isn’t all Kibbles ‘n’ Bits. It includes hip replacements, tummy tucks, eyelid lifts and even gender reassignment surgery.
