A few decades ago, some enterprising person…probably in Ohio…decided to combine the magic of lawn darts, Toss Across, wood working, and a few beers. Then, he decided to make his fellow drunks giggle their asses off by calling it “Cornhole.” What resulted was a summertime backyard phenomenon.
Everyone plays it, but few are proficient enough to be called “dominant” no matter what the state of inebriation. There are some ways you can get ahead of the curve, though. Sit back and learn, young Jedi, and you, too, can become a Cornhole master and become a legend in your own neighborhood. Follow these steps, and you can be well on your way.
- Pacing – Throwing quickly gives you an edge. It makes the slower players feel “rushed” and that puts a hitch in their game. This little tidbit came from World Champion Jamie Graham, so pay heed and respect.
- Throw – If your keep your palm flat, release the bag at eye-level, and try a little spin action you can keep the bag from bouncing and improve your accuracy.
- Stance – Keep your feet planted rather than taking a step forward. That’s a pro move.
From there, you can land all the free beer, BBQ, and Cornhole groupies your burly frame can handle. Now, go make the backyard magic happen!
