Disney The Latest Company To Ban Straws

Disney is jumping on the straw-free bandwagon. Just weeks after Starbucks announced their decision to faze out straws from their stores, the Walt Disney Company has announced plans to eliminate single-use plastic straws and plastic stirrers at all of their properties worldwide by mid 2019, with the exception of Disney Tokyo.

The move will have a huge impact on the environment, since the company says it will translate to the elimination of more than 175 million straws and 13 million stirrers annually.

And that’s not the only thing Disney is doing to help the environment. Disney hotels and Disney cruises will start transitioning to refillable in-room amenities, which will result in an 80% reduction in plastic use. It also plans to take steps to decrease the use of single-use plastic bags, offering guests at parks and on cruise ships the opportunity to buy reusable bags.
