A Russian startup wants to put massive billboards in space.
StarRocket says their plan is to use tiny light-reflecting satellites to form the sprawling ads. The company says the concept is similar to skytyping, but the “orbital displays” would only be visible at night and could be seen from around the world.
StarRocket's CEO Vlad Sitnikov says initial tests could start as early as next year with the ads possibly going up by 2021. Space-based advertising was outlawed in the U.S. in 1993, but a space law expert says no such law exists in Russia.
