Using social media doesn't benefit everyone, but it seems to be good for the mental health of users over age 30. Michigan State University researchers found people over age 30 who use social media are 63 percent less likely to suffer with mental health issues like anxiety or depression compared to those who don't use it. Those who benefited the most from using social media were those that used it to maintain regular contact with friends and extended family members. Study authors note that "actively interacting with people-- especially sharing messages, posts and comments with close friends and reminiscing about past interactions-- is linked to improvements in well-being."
