Shirley Manson Rejects Ageist Commentary: ‘I Will Continue to Wrinkle and Flub’

Shirley Manson of Garbage is speaking out against ageist commentary in the media, particularly in response to a Daily Mail headline that criticized the band's appearance in new promotional photos. Manson, who is nearly sixty years old, emphasized that aging is natural and should not be viewed negatively. She rejected the idea that women should be diminished as they age and affirmed her commitment to rocking hard regardless of appearance. Garbage will embark on a U.S. tour in support of their upcoming album, Let All That We Imagine Be the Light, continuing their legacy of politically charged alternative rock.

ERIC CLAPTON: Back To the Rim

Next to his multiple sold-out residencies at London's Royal Albert Hall, Eric Clapton has no trouble filling the seats in Japan as he started an eight-night run at the Budokan in Tokyo last night (Sunday). EC said "I could probably play there once a month and they would still show up. They never seem to get tired of it. Their audiences are varied. Sometimes they're almost over respectful, and other times they're just like a bunch of hysterical kids. I mean it's difficult to know." Clapton will be at the Budokan through April 27th followed by four UK dates, including three at the Albert Hall, in May before going to Milan, Paris and Nice through June 2nd. After that it's six U.S. dates in September from the 8th in Nashville through the 20th in Uncasville, Connecticut with Cleveland, Philadelphia, Boston and New York City in between.

New Foreigner Song Featuring Lou Gramm Coming In September

Lou Gramm is guesting with Foreigner during their South American tour, but there's more news on his involvement with his old band. In an interview with Chile's Radio Futuro, bassist Jeff Pilson revealed, "We found an unfinished song in all the files...and Lou had sung one verse and he sang the chorus. And it was great, but it was only one verse. So, we called Lou. We said, 'What do you think about finishing and singing the song?' So, he said, 'Absolutely.' He wrote and finished two verses and sang them. He added cowbell. And we have now a new, old Foreigner song that will be on the Foreigner '4' release coming out in September. The song is called 'Fool If You Love Him', and it came out great."

MICK JAGGER: In Case You Missed This Two Years Ago

Mick Jagger is still not not engaged. In June 2023, Jagger's girlfriend, former ballerina Melanie Hamrick, was seen sporting a diamond ring, but she acknowledged that they're not exactly engaged. She told People, “I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes... In my mind, it’s a promise ring. We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”

Asked if they're getting married, she says, "I don’t know. I’m kind of like, a live-in-the-moment type of person, so who knows...“If we didn’t have social media, then no one would know anything about your life. So I guess it’s, why don’t we keep it as it would be if there wasn’t social media and share the things that you want to share. I like that approach. I think what goes on in someone’s home is private.”

Well, now there's a new report going around that they're engaged, but Melanie told Paris Match the same thing she said two years ago. "Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything." Mick, 81, and Melanie, 37, have been together since 2014 and have a eight-year-old son, Deveraux. Should they get married, it would be Mick's third, following Bianca Pérez-Mora Macías from 1971 to 1980, and Jerry Hall from 1990 to '99.

BRIAN MAY: Coachella Rhapsody

We know why Brian May posted last week that he was in Los Angeles for "a very special little job." That "job" was a guest appearance on Friday at the Coachella festival in Indio, California outside Palm Springs, joining singer Benson Boone for Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." May and Boone even caught a private jet to Palm Springs for the show, with May posting photos and video on Instagram, and captioning one photo with, "Gonna treasure this moment on the plane with Benson Boone — a truly golden 22 year old prodigy. I'm proud and happy to say we are now officially pals." And the day after the show, May wrote, I'm still reeling from [Friday] night at Coachella. Thanks to all of you folks who made it feel so special — you know who you are!!!! And this particular way of concluding 'Bohemian Rhapsody' will be hard to beat in the years to come!!! Thanks. And for Benson and his entire team, I have no words. I'm awestruck."

No word on if May will reprise his role for Coachella's second weekend later this week.

On Saturday, May headed to Las Vegas for a performance by the Eagles at the Sphere. Joe Walsh posted a photo of them with Eagles bassist Timothy B. Schmit and the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, who, along with Dead & Company, will resume their residency at the Sphere on Thursday. Perhaps May is scoping out the venue for Queen+Adam Lambert?

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: For the Phantom

This month's Bruce Springsteen archival concert release takes us back to April 23rd, 2008 in Orlando, Florida for the second show following the death six days earlier -- April 17th -- of E Street Band keyboardist Danny Federici from melanoma at the age of 58. Like at the first show in Tampa the night before, Orlando opened with a five-minute video tribute to Federici with "Blood Brothers" providing the soundtrack. In Orlando, in addition to the video tribute and recorded version of "Blood Brothers," Springsteen and the E Street Band opened the show with the 1995 song. Springsteen, with a slight quiver in his voice, sang the first verse a capella before the band joined in. This version is now available on YouTube. Springsteen also did three songs off his first album, Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J., in Federici's honor -- “Spirit in the Night,” “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?” and “Lost in the Flood.” This show also featured an appearance by The Byrds' Roger McGuinn for “Turn! Turn! Turn!," and Bob Dylan's “Mr. Tambourine Man,” which The Byrds covered. For details on this release go to Nugs.net.

ELTON JOHN: Musically Drained

Following his latest Broadway disaster, last year's Tammy Faye, which closed after 29 performances, Elton John tells The Evening Standard, "I don't think I have another musical in me." But that's okay, as he still has two in production -- The Devil Wears Prada on London's West End since last September, and The Lion King in New York since 1997.

As for what's next for Elton, he says, "I really want to do another dance track … I’ve got two songs already written that are pretty damn good.” And his husband and manager David Furnish adds, “I think we would like to find more opportunities for Elton to work with young artists, in terms of future collaborations. “I know there’s lots of people he would love to work with, people that he admires, and also to find a way to do that in a more official capacity. … For that to become, not just a hobby, but something that is a little bit more official.” Elton's last two collaborative dance tracks were "Cold Heart (Pnau remix)" with Dua Lipa in 2021, and "Hold Me Closer" with Britney Spears in 2022.
